In my experience teaching in an urban environment, classroom management is the NUMBER ONE most important tool! If you do not have effective classroom management skills, you will struggle all year long. That is just the HONEST truth! Many of the management techniques I have found just DO NOT work with my kids. I have had to really dig deep into the internet and come up with my own ideas to be successful. Here is what has worked for my class!

This TPT tool has been a FANTASTIC classroom management strategy for my class! I set a goal of how many marbles the class needs to earn. Then I let the students choose what they are working to earn. Giving them the choice makes them feel important and as if they have the "power", and I have found that makes them work a little harder to earn it! There are a BUNCH of rewards to choose from, or you can create your own! I give marbles for following rules, great transitions, being kind, etc. It is also a great MATH tool as we count the marbles as we earn them! I laminated everything and put magnets on the back so I can easily use it every year!

This song has been a LIFE SAVER when it comes to cleaning up in our classroom! It is not your typical clean up song but my kiddos LOVE IT! They know that they have to be in their seats with their heads down before the song is over and it has turned into a fun game! After they know the room is clean and they still have time left, our classroom turns into a DANCE PARTY and we have so much fun! Clean up time does not always have to be so serious!

I know everyone has their own opinions on clip charts. For my classroom, it is one of the tools that keeps my kiddos accountable for their actions and helps them understand consequences. YES, it is hard for them to accept and understand but if you stick with it, it is worth it in the long run! It is a great VISUAL tool so the kids can see the effects of their actions and the choices they make. This is one of my FAVS because you can edit the squares and it comes with calendars!

Many of my behavior problems happen when my student's get BORED or run out of work to do. This early finisher poster set is a GREAT tool to keep kiddos busy so you can have more one-on-one time with students who need a little extra help! I laminate all of the posters and have it on my white board. Sometime I put up more than one option. I have crates in the front of the room so they can choose what they want to do. If the crate is empty then they know they must make a different choice. AGAIN, if THEY get to make the choice, it makes them feel as though they are in control and they will be less likely to act out.

The treasure box is a HUGE HIT for my kindergartners! They love earning prizes for their behavior. At the beginning of the year if they are on the highest spot on the clip chart by the end of the day then I let them choose a prize daily! I do this for the first couple weeks to ensure they understand the expectations of behavior. Then I move to ONLY getting to choose a prize on Fridays for having great behavior the ENTIRE WEEK! Whatever you put in your treasure box is up to you! Candy, toys, pencils, the possibilities are ENDLESS! My amazing Mother is our "treasure box fairy" she buys all of our treasure box treats! Find someone you know to help you out! Aunts, friends, in-laws, parents, grandparents, you will be surprised who is willing to help if you just ask. Target dollar spot, dollar tree, and amazon are a few places where our fairy shops for the most popular prizes!
